Spring One
The Year 6 children had a fantastic time at Robin Wood. They were given the opportunity to develop their teamwork skills, resilience and to challenge themselves.
Here are some of the many activities:
Piranha Pool
Children had to solve puzzles in order to escape the Piranha Pool before any piranhas were released.
The Night Line
Children had to work as a team to complete an obstacle course whilst blindfolded.
Trapeze
The children climbed a tower to reach a platform. Once at the top, they had to do a leap of faith to reach the trapeze bar.

Robin Hood came to Robin Wood!!

Remembrance Day
We made poppies to remind us about the sacrifices that the armed forces have made. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of WW1 we prepared a special assembly where we recited the First World War poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ by John McCrae.
The Grinch
UKS2 learning the art of poetry performance – reciting ‘The Grinch’ and then a whole school trip to the cinema to watch the film.

Autumn Term
UKS2 Chellow Dene Nature Walk.
In October we took the whole of UKS2 for a walk around Chellow Dene. We had a fantastic time investigating the natural habitat in our local area and observing the changing colours of the seasons.
UKS2 Science.
How far apart are the planets? The children used skittles to represent the planets and measured using a scale.
We visited the Science and media museum in Bradford to look at the properties of planets.
Geography UKS2
We looked at aerial photos of our planet. This gave us the opportunity to compare countries and see how small we really our in our world.

How can we improve our school environment?
UKS2 took part in various activities linked to our school community, including artwork, gardening, History and Maths.
Planting a variety of seeds, including broad beans, carrots and beetroot.
Lots of bulbs were planted. Hopefully they will bloom in Spring.
Our little patch of flowers is blossoming nicely.
The Daily Mile!
Every morning, before the start of lessons, we get our bodies and brains working by taking a 15 minute walk around the playground.

Owl Visit September 2017
As part of our Harry Potter topic, we arranged a visit from the Owl Sanctuary in Bradford. The Owl Expert brought a variety of owls including a Barn Owl, a Tawny Owl and a Snowy Owl. We each had the opportunity to hold the owls and find out more information about their lifestyles. After the visit, the children had the chance to route through an owl pellet to understand the digestive system and to search for clues of its last meal.
This visit inspired the children to find further facts about the owls and present them in a non-chronological report. They also enjoyed learning how to draw an owl using the correct proportions and adding in shading.
Year 5 Fire Safety.
The local fire fighters visited the school to lead a fire safety workshop for Year 5s.
Whole School Trip on the Steam Train to Haworth
Our trip to Hogwarts…
As part of the Harry Potter topic, children were sent a letter and a Platform 9 ¾ ticket inviting them to join Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
In response to this, the children wrote a reply of acceptance sharing their excitement and worries about entering this magical place.
On the day of the trip, staff and pupils in UKS2 dressed as students and professors of Hogwarts. There was a sense of anticipation as they travelled on the “Hogwarts Express” and walked up Diagon Alley (Haworth Main Street).
Follow Up Work
After the trip, the children developed their mapping skills through drawing a map of Haworth Main Street and comparing this to Diagon Alley. They also identified different filming locations on a map of the countries of the British Isles.

Another fantastic experience at Robin Wood with the Year 6 children. Three days away from school and parents! Even the bitter cold couldn’t make us miserable. All children and adults had our bravery challenged by the various activities. For example, zip-wiring against the bitter wind; surviving the deadly piranha pool and chipping our way through the frozen lake in our canoes.

Visit from “Fluffy the Dog” (Fig)
To bring our Science classification lessons to life, we were lucky to have a visit from Fig the dog, who (alongside her dedicated owner) was able to answer our questions. This allowed us to develop our understanding of mammals and compare Fluffy the Dog, from Harry Potter, to a real dog.
